Roll for Shoes

Roll for Shoes is playfully chaotic. You arrive with a name and a vibe, and everything else unfolds at the table. Scenes can shift from everyday errands to wild escapades in minutes. The humour comes from your ideas and the quick yes-and style. A professional Game Master keeps the pace lively, enhances the jokes, and turns surprises into stories. If you’re looking for a night of creative mischief without any prep, this game offers easy laughs and memorable quotes.

A session accommodates 2 to 6 players and lasts about two to three hours. It’s suitable for beginners, families, birthdays, and teams looking to unwind. Veterans enjoy it as a palate cleanser between more intense campaigns. You can jump into a heist, a mystery, or something wonderfully quirky, and be playing in no time. Meet our Game Masters to set the tone, from gentle whimsy to rowdy slapstick.

How to play Roll for Shoes

Describe what you attempt. The Game Master agrees on which skill applies and how challenging it is, then you roll a pool of six-sided dice equal to that skill. Gear can add dice. Overcome the opposition and you succeed, and the table narrates what that looks like. The twist that makes Roll for Shoes stand out is advancement on the fly. When you roll sixes, you can create a new, more specific skill at a higher rank. Your sheet evolves from vague talent to oddly precise expertise as the comedy escalates.

Players bring a simple character idea, a willingness to be playful, and access to a handful of d6. A professional Game Master provides prompts, fair calls, and a loose scenario that encourages improvisation. One-shots focus on a bold premise and significant payoffs in a single evening. Campaigns allow your strange new skills to accumulate across episodes, with recurring rivals and running gags. Playing online is straightforward too, with digital dice and shared notes. Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to learn the rules before we play?

No preparation required. You can arrive with just a character name and a basic concept. A professional Game Master will explain the entire system at the table in just a few minutes, then guide you through each roll. The rules are straightforward and adaptable, allowing you to concentrate on expressing the entertaining actions your character takes. If you’ve never played a tabletop RPG before, this is an easy introduction. If you have, it allows you to improvise without the hassle of charts or character builds.

How do characters function if we begin with just one skill?

Everyone starts with a single ability called Do Anything 1. When you attempt something, you roll that many six-sided dice. Gear you acquire can add dice. If you roll sixes, you gain a sharper, more specific skill at a higher rating, which replaces the vague one for that moment. Your character sheet evolves as you play, transitioning from broad talent to quirky expertise. For instance, Do Anything 1 might develop into Sneak 2, then Vent-Crawling 3, and eventually Vent-Crawling While Whistling 4.

How does Roll for Shoes differ from D&D?

It is designed for quick improvisation. There are no classes, feats, or lengthy character creation. You only use d6 dice, and your skills emerge during play rather than beforehand. The tone leans towards playful chaos and fast yes-and storytelling. A professional Game Master still shapes stakes and scenes, but rules never hinder momentum. If you appreciate the tactical depth of D&D, consider this its freewheeling cousin for evenings when you want laughter, surprises, and minimal bookkeeping.

Can it accommodate a short campaign, rather than just one-shots?

Yes. It works well as a mini series or for a longer campaign. Your uniquely specific skills continue to shine, so the discoveries from the last session keep yielding results. A professional Game Master keeps track of callbacks, recurring NPCs, and the consequences of your antics, allowing the comedy to build and the world to feel interconnected. The format is ideal for episodic play, such as capers, monster-of-the-week mysteries, or office antics. Session by session, you create running gags and reputations without needing complicated advancement rules.

What dice and materials should we bring to the game?

Bring a handful of six-sided dice if you have them. A pencil and a few index cards or a notes app will help you jot down new skills and items as they come up. That’s all you need. For online play, the Game Master can provide a dice roller and shared notes. You can also find common options for remote play here: online tools. No miniatures, grids, or character generators are necessary.

Is it suitable for children or families with mixed ages?

Yes. The rules are easy to explain, turns are brief, and the humour appeals to all ages. A professional Game Master establishes a welcoming atmosphere, keeps the scenes flowing, and employs safety tools to ensure everyone feels at ease. Reading and writing requirements are minimal. Kids can express their actions and roll dice, while an adult can assist in tracking new skills for younger players. It's also perfect for family gatherings where you want plenty of laughs without complicated preparation.

What genres and tones suit this game best?

It thrives wherever quick ideas shine. Think heists, workplace chaos, cozy mysteries, school hijinks, kitchen disasters, fantasy side quests, or sci-fi misadventures. The Game Master adjusts the mood to suit your group, from wholesome and whimsical to loud slapstick. You can even parody familiar worlds with the serial numbers filed off. • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a really good job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot and yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Best regards, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I truly appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed from our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his expertise in the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared. Punctual. And had a wonderful sense of humour.
