Martial Arts

Martial Arts

Imagine a rainy rooftop duel, a bustling dojo on tournament day, or a moonlit chase through bamboo. Martial Arts sessions emphasise discipline, creative technique, and the significance behind every strike. You establish a style, earn respect, and confront old grudges. Between fights, you train, seek mentors, and protect your school. When steel meets fist, a professional Game Master orchestrates the action like choreography, maintaining sharp momentum and clarity in every move, so the table feels the footwork, the feints, and the moment a single choice determines the match.

It excels at the table because action has clear stakes and immediate feedback. Players enjoy their moment in the spotlight without long waits, as duels transition smoothly from one flourish to the next. Beginners and families appreciate the straightforward goals and visible progress from training scenes. Company team events benefit from tag-team set pieces and friendly rivalries. Veterans value tactical positioning, resource timing, and meaningful consequences for taking risks. A professional Game Master employs safety tools and adjusts the spotlight so every character’s style is significant.

Our Game Masters frequently run Martial Arts in systems like Feng Shui 2, Avatar Legends, Legend of the Five Rings, Exalted, Fate Core, Savage Worlds, GURPS Martial Arts, or a D&D 5e or Pathfinder 2e framework centred around schools and duels. The tone is yours to establish, ranging from grounded gym drama and gritty tournaments to wire fu wuxia, samurai tragedy, or shonen rival arcs. Explore options on the game systems page, and get matched with rules and tempo that suit your table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which game systems are best suited for Martial Arts?

Different tables like different engines. For fast, movie-style fights and stunts, Feng Shui 2 shines. Avatar Legends supports teamwork, emotions, and creative bending or chi styles. Legend of the Five Rings leans into honour, duel etiquette, and pressure. Exalted delivers wire-fu at mythic scale. Fate Core lets you build custom schools with aspects and stunts. Savage Worlds is great for pulpy tournaments. A 5e or Pathfinder 2e framework can focus on schools and duels. If you want technical realism, GURPS Martial Arts works. Browse options on the game systems page.

Can we choose gritty MMA, samurai drama, or wire-fu?

Yes. A professional Game Master sets gravity, injury severity, and stunt expectations to match your preferences. Gritty sessions feel like gym drama or the MMA circuit, with fatigue, clinches, and tight ranges. Samurai tragedy highlights iaido duels, duty, and tough choices. Wuxia allows wall runs, bamboo leaps, and blade dances. Shonen-style rival arcs emphasize growth and dramatic finishers. Before play, you choose the tone, lines and veils, and pacing. If you need assistance matching tone and table energy, see GM playstyles.

Is this suitable for beginners or younger players?

Yes. Martial Arts sessions have clear goals and visible progress, so new players understand what matters quickly. A professional Game Master can provide prebuilt characters with signature techniques and keep choices focused in early scenes. Many groups enjoy rules-light options like Avatar Legends or Fate Core, or simplified moves in 5e. A professional Game Master uses safety tools, reviews content in advance, and ensures depictions of harm are non-graphic if you prefer. For younger players, the emphasis remains on teamwork, respect, and creative problem-solving rather than deep rules mastery.

What can we anticipate from a Martial Arts one-shot?

Expect a quick setup, a showcase of styles, and two or three key fights linked to a straightforward theme such as a tournament bracket, dojo defence, or a grudge match. Scenes alternate between action and brief moments for banter, coaching, or training. Each player receives a clear spotlight moment and an opportunity to improvise a flourish. Characters are typically prebuilt with a signature technique. Between scenes, the Game Master may grant a new manoeuvre or advantage earned through choices made during play, then guide towards a decisive final duel or team bout.

    Annick

  • Tom was amazing! He was really great with the kids and very patient with his explanations. It was a wonderful evening and definitely worth doing again! The kids asked the next day when we would be doing this again.

    Danny

  • First of all, I want to say that Sebastian was really great as a DM. For his first run as a booked DM, he did a really good job. The 3 stars refer to the following: 1. We were disappointed that the adventure was labelled a One Shot and yet wasn't a complete story. Discovering that there are two more parts wasn't very positive for us, as it meant there was no satisfying conclusion to the story. 2. As new players, it was difficult for us to understand the English character sheets in such a short time. In German, it would have been much easier. Even receiving the character sheets a few days in advance would have been helpful for preparation. 3. More guidance would be beneficial. Especially for beginners, a more linear one shot would have been preferable. We wasted a large portion of the adventure time doing unnecessary things because we didn't really know how the game worked. Overall, I think the StoryForgers concept is really good and I see a lot of potential in it, especially for introducing new players to D&D. I hope you don't take my feedback the wrong way but as honest criticism. Best regards, Mario

  • Bryan was exceptional. We had a group with varying levels of experience, and he managed to keep everyone engaged and involved. His positive attitude made the game enjoyable for all. I truly appreciated how he could clearly explain what was needed from our less experienced players while keeping our more seasoned players on their toes with his expertise in the game. Everyone in our party had a fantastic time thanks to Bryan.

    Jeremy

  • Dayron was fantastic. Well-prepared. Punctual. And had a wonderful sense of humour.
